With his break out song “Dog eat dog” and his sensational feature on “Bando Diaries” with Psycho Yp, ODUMODUBLVCK has created quite the name for himself with his unique sound. A sound distinct from that of many and has found its way into the hearts of almost every Afrobeats lover. This artiste has emerged with a style of music that blends Hip hop and pop sounds into indigenous groovy and melodious Nigerian sounds. Having released his first single in 2017, ODUMODUBLVCK has been a seminal and innovative voice in the movement of his type of music and now reaps the rewards of so many years of ground and hard work.
In 2023, he dropped Picanto featuring talented artiste Zlatan and Ecko Miles to further lay his claim in the industry; melodious tune that just couldn’t be resisted. Picanto was an internet sensation, with its open verse challenge on social media for upcoming artistes and amazing publicity done by the artiste to push this project.
The follow up banger Declan Rice, was teased months before its release with snippets and live videos. The tune and lyrics from Declan Rice gave a melodious whip with dash of the artiste’s ever energetic self and personality which seems to be this artiste’s style and niche. The grating like quality of his sound which happens to be the uniqueness of his sound and lyrics began to receive backlash and various constructive criticism and whatnot, of course one man’s food is another man’s poison. The artiste describes his sound as “a sweet misery, a beautiful melody.” Some may describe it as “an ocean of sparkling water with waves...” This sound takes you on a journey of music with sensational melody that calms the mind and within you’ll still find groove. His delivery on such beats always leaves listeners wondering how he is able to mix it with such distinctive lyrics. These distinctive lyrics have been able to gather gain a certain level of liking from listeners and is fondly referred to as “Afro-cultism.”
His mixtape “Eziokwu” which translates to “The Truth” is one that portrays his attempt to make known his special and unique quality at artistry. This rapper and lyricist shows his prowess on his recent project with “Shoot and Go Home” “Saint Obi” “Stripper’s Anthem” “MC Oluomo” and “Declan Rice.” He still goes on to show himself on “Kubolor” “Adamma Beke” and “Hammer time” where he portrays smutty scenes through sweet contagious Melodies and intricate lyrics.
This project cuts across the Nigerian mainstream lense and is still appealing to certain demographics because of its infusion of different sounds.
